Well, I thought it was cold.
Looking at the thermometer this morning, I see it only got down to five - well - that's what I get for reading it in poor light. But it still was chilly.
And the first frost cannot be due yet - there aren't buds on the Tree Dahlias!

Why is it that the tree dahlia flowers and the first frosts seem to coincide. One has to be quick to get a glimpse of the flowers before whooosh, they're gone! It's not that they are planted too late, in fact, I seldom dig them up. Have you tried to grow any from stem cuttings? When did you take the cuttings, just before the heavy frosts turn them into brown mush?
